The pm system doesn’t work for me. No place to put in recipient. I’m receiving pm but not able to send except by finding an old email to the person I want to contact and doing a reply. What am I doing wrong? Obviously don’t know how to pm you.

I would like to buy the best version of this you have for sale. The pm system doesn’t seem to work for me.

Looking great, Kevin. You're going to need another Packard pretty soon, if you can get clearance from the tower.

For a driver's door locking exterior handle, send a PM to flackmaster. Also John Ulrich Packard Parts has a lot of 120 parts.

Locking handles for driver's door are relatively rare because they were an option. Passenger locking door handles were standard, but you can't switch them to driver's side.

What I have matches the interior door handles that Don posted. One crank.($35.) A knob.($5) A non-locking drivers door exterior handle that was re-chromed. ($85).

In future, this document may help with accessories available in 1940.

If cost is a concern, buy a kit from Grain it Technologies and do it yourself. It’s not that hard to get a good result. Your prime and paint the metal with a base color, like the specific tan for your year and model. They can tell you. You add the grain with water soluble ink. If you don’t like what you did, just wipe off with a wet rag and try again. It’s very forgiving. When you have the grain pattern the way you want it, let it dry a day. They spray with clear urethane. Sand after it dries a couple days and spray clear again. My journey with grading starts at Post #184 of the Duchess Project Blog.https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?start=180&topic_id=5878&order=ASC&status=&mode=0
I kind of got wrapped around the axle on getting the right pattern , so you might jump to post #233 to see the result.

Here’s my setup. Fuel pump, adjustable gauge set to 4 or 5 lbs, check valve on the bypass line.

Howard sent you the light switch info.
The starter button is held with 2 nuts on the back, on the '40, the screws have square heads that nestle in square indentations behind the cover plate on the shell. To get the cover plate off, you have to get the light switch, the cigar lighter and hand throttle off.
\Disocnnect the wires to the cugar lighter and (battery off) twist the inside of the lighter which unscrews from its housing. See pic.
The ignition is the same as the starter button.
The handtrottle unscrews like the light switch, so you can remove the cover plate part way. To pull the dash and cover plate, as mentioned, you have to release the end of the hand throttle cable on the firewall engine compartment.

Here are some behind-the-dash pix. The new disconnects I added get in the way, so you might try putting a light back there, then stick your smartphone under there and take some blind shots to see what you have to deal with.
After all the screws were out, my dash did stick along the top due to some black sealant, so it may just be stuck. Also it may be hung up on the wiper control. Be careful because you don't want to bend the fork that comes out from the wiper motor toward the control. There is a nut holding the control.
