1930 740 battery box

I recently purchased a 1930 740 Club Sedan. It has no battery box. I do have the cover. I need to have one constructed and having the correct dimensions, how it attaches to the car and how the cover attaches to the box would be of immense help. I know Fred and Dan sell the large screws that attach the cover to the box, but haven't seen a battery box itself so not sure what they screw into. Perhaps some sort of ears on the box? I located a photo online of a box off a 733 showing the bottom and the side that faces the frame including three round holes for battery connections and some sort of brackets. Was wondering if anyone can provide information and/or take a photo or two of the installed box without its cover. Thanks much for any assistance!

The battery box has 4 bolts and nuts holding it to the side of the chassis. There are small square section spacers attached to the side of the box holding it about 1/2" away from the side of the chassis.

The cover is held on by 4 studs, one in each corner of the box fixed so that there is a little movement to allow the top holding female threaded screws to align. Bill Hirsch has thesehttp://www.hirschauto.com/Battery-Box-Screws/products/54/

I fitted a battery isolator. My 740 has side mounted spares so it is well hidden and easy to access.

The leads from the battery run through the side of the chassis via special brass fittings. The attachment for the negative power lead has insulating bushes originally made from a red fibre like material. I machined new ones from a machinable plastic. The earth connects to the chassis and I ran an extra strap across to the rear engine mounting.

Hopefully the attached photos will show all of this better. let me know if you need any more details.

Great photos and information! Very helpful. Thank you. Couple more questions: What are the exact dimensions of the box? How thick and/or what gauge steel is it fabricated from? How long are the corner bolts?

The box is 15 3/8" long x 8 1/2" wide x 10 1/4" deep. The radius of the vertical corners is 3/8". The thickness of the steel is about 0.075" and the corner posts are 4" long threaded 1/4" UNF. They have a small piece coming off at 90 deg at the bottom to retain them and a split pin to to hold them up when the lid is off. I tried photographing the posts inside the box but the reflections off the box make it difficult to see them.

In addition to the 4 bolts holding the box to the chassis there are bolts on the rear of the box connecting to the end of the valence & bolts on the front and side connecting to the fender.

Could I ask for a photo of the outside of the battery box with the electrical disconnect showing. I would like to see how it looks from the exterior side. Did you place it in the wheel well or the aft side of the box?

The box is steel, it has a flat bottom and the vertical corners are slightly rounder at the corners with only one vertical seam one the engine side face. If you wanted to make one and keep it authentic you would need a drawing which I would be happy to make but I am away from my 740 at present and not likely to have access for a couple of months.
The isolation switch is not original and is simply fitted at the back of the box near the top edge with the handle accessible behind the spare, assuming it has side mounts.
A similar set up on a 633 is much more cramped, also with both, the switch takes up significant space inside the box so a smaller than original battery is needed or an Optima.
Sorry I can't provide photos or more detail for a while
