After receiving your wonderful post I printed out the letter and your comments and last Monday I took him aside away from all ears and showed him the letter. He blew up and said we aren't the place for you and gave me my money back ($300) and took out the new coil and points they had put in. I towed it the next day to a GREAT MECHANIC who knows Packards! It turned out 1 day later but was upsetting at first. What a sensitive person he grew into. And this new guy is smart and listens and is 3 blocks from my place. It all turns out. Thank you so much for your post. Who know what damage I averted by your post. I am so grateful.

Hi Ross, the manual from this site for my 53 Clipper says .028. You said .025. Is there a reason? I'm using Champion and they come gaped at .030. I want it to be accurate. Thank you for your response.

The spark plug gap increases due to erosion of the electrode and wire as the car is driven. If you start with .025, in 10,000 miles it may be .028 or .030, then itn needs to be regapped.. A few thou here or there makes little difference but setting the plugs at .020 or .040 will make problems. Dont overthink too much just enjoy your Packard

Fred is right on target with his response. I checked AC and Champion spark plug catalogs of the era as well as other secondary references and they are all consistent in recommending 0.025".

Great! Ok I bet you know where I can get brake hoses. I tried Auto Zone and Napa. They both had them for 53 Packards but they were too big. I took in the brake hose the mechanic took off the car this morning. HELP. It measures 3/8 on both ends.

Napa 11146 is the correct number for all three hoses on your car.
