If I were to do it again, I would buy the Beugler tool. I am just not that patient anymore.

How would painting the pieces, then wiping or polishing the paint off from the high parts? This would seem like an easier way to get the stripping repainted. I offer this suggestion as theory. I have no experience in practice. Just a thought...

I painted a 1953-55 Packard wire wheel hubcap that way years ago. I sprayed it all and the next day I took a rubber sanding block with a felt pad on it and chrome polish and rubbed off all the raised areas. It came out well. I may try that on an old stainless ribbed piece as an experiment.

What kind of prep work did you have to do?

What kind of paint did you use?

Did you put a sealer on it after painting it?

I did my 34 hubcaps in a way somewhat similar to Packards1, but after the paint (enamel) had begun to set but before it was fully dry, I first used a rubber squeegee blcok for the large excesses, and I then wrapped my rubber sanding block with a bit of flannel just barely damp with lacquer thinner to wipe any further excess from the raised surfaces. It worked very well.

I basically used store brand gloss black enamel. I did mask all the outside areas to reduce the amount of cleanup I had to do. I did not clear coat it. Prep work just was starting with a clean surface.

I tried that, but was unable to perfect the technique. May work well for someone with a better touch or feel for that.
I tried using a T-shirt wrapped around a large squeegee and a small amount of lacquer thinner on the T-shirt.

On my Patrician I used pin stripping tape, the kitchen table and 3 weeks of time, much to the irritation of "SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED". When it came time to do her Patrician, we both said no way were we going to do that again, so I painted all of the reynolds wrap bright red. true it is not correct but we both love it.

I suffer from digital dyslexia once in a while and my fingers don't remember what they were supposed to type.
