Picked up my stripped fenders. No surprises, really, as I knew there were repairs to the bottoms of each. The laced rust along the edge of the driver's side fender was worst than I had thought, but it is all in the area that gets hidden under the body. Repairs will be made to shore it up, along with straightening the poor body work.

After almost 2 years, I finally have the Packard back together. This past weekend, I drove 500 miles to Milwaukee (Oconomowoc) for AACA's national meet, then back on Sunday. Getting off of the freeway, I happened upon Route 66 and stayed on it for about 20 miles, even though it was kind of out of the way. Ended up in Pontiac, Illinois, where there is one fantastic Pontiac Automobile Museum in town.

Hardly a hiccup the whole way. On the way home, my charging system kind of stopped working, and as of now don't know if it's the regulator or generator.

Unfortunately, I lost a luggage rack part during my trip. The knurled knob that holds the rack in place while in the upright position. Somehow the pin came out (rough roads rattled it out), and now it's probably imbedded in someone's radiator.

If anyone knows where one of these may be for sale, I'd greatly appreciate it.

West,

Saw your car Saturday @ Oconomowoc Wisconsin AACA show. Did not put 2 and 2 together that is was your car. Glad to hear you made the trip somewhat uneventfully. Is the interior on your original? We came up for the day and saw some fine automobiles. Didn't seem to be a lot of Packard's there but I heard there was some bad weather earlier in the week which might have thinned the herd.
Good luck on finding the luggage rack part.

Yes. For the most part my interior is original, and not very well cleaned up yet. I've been spending all my time getting it mechanically where it should be for driving, and, of course, the exterior finishing I've been doing. I hope to give the interior a good cleaning soon, along with replacing the windows/weatherstripping, and getting the air conditioner working.

I talked with a gentleman at length who also had a 1941 convertible sedan.

There was only one other Packard, and that was a 1930 convertible coupe. I, too, was surprised that there weren't more Packards. Lots of Lincolns and Buicks, tho, and plenty of really rare other pieces that made the show very worthwhile to attend. There was also a CCCA meet in Minneapolis/St. Paul, so that may have stolen a few Classics from the AACA meet, but overall, there was a very good showing of some serious CCCA Classics.

Just a note for the 40 Packard lovers.

Somewhere in New Jersey there used to be a 180 touring sedan with under 9000 miles on the odometer. It scored 88 CCCA points totally original. It came from New York City where it spent it's life in a heated garage.

The interior was mint, mint, mint. You can't appreciate how good the interiors on those cars looked when new unless you saw that one.

Tim, you say" there used to be"

Is that 40 years ago or 4 years ago? That makes a big difference on interior.

Good Morning West,

If you can't find a luggage rack knurled knob I could ask the machinist that made mine if he is willing to make yours. He would need your other one as a sample thou.

Example of my knurled knob

Those turned out very nice. I forgot about that. Mine may not be as difficult to replicate, as they don't really have the "knurl", but a rib. Also, no threads... just a drilled hole for a pin.
Do you remember the cost?
