Thanks, that's what I was thinking of. Were they called Twin Turbine Hydramatics or was the Buick's new Dynaflow?

For whatever reason, they were called "Dual Range Hydramatic" and referred to as Jetaway. You can always spot them by the Park position, plus they didn't come out until 1956. "Twin Turbine" was Buick's tranny. In 1961-64 some Pontiacs and all Olds used a 3 speed Hydramatic called Roto Hydramatic and nicknamed the Slim Jim. Owners had an unprintable name for them, as they were notoriously crappy trannies.

Early Hydramatic had a park feature when shift lever was in reverse with engine off good article below. Gm used lower number rear axle ratio to give overdrive effect with the four speeds of the hydromatic

GM was also expert at promoting features such as Jetaway Hydramatic.......usually rather breathlessly!

While we are off of a Packard subject, I was wondering if there are any Dynaflow Cadillacs and Power Glide Pontiacs still around. The Hydramatic plant suffered a fire in the 1950s and GM substituted Dynaflows and Power Glides to keep the Cadillac and Pontiac automatic transmission equipped production going.

When looking to the results 1952, 1955 and 1954 below then one comes to the conclusion that a boozer's nose would have been a suitable radiator mascot of a mid-1950s in-line engine Packard.
The chart bottommost seems to report that the jury have seen relative better Packard mileages before the war.

Yes, if you want a Dynaflow Cadillac they are still around. They aren't as reliable as a Hydramatic car and the performance is only slightly better than a Packard with Ultramatic. The original Powerglide was a multiple element torque converter only drive as well, so if slush is your objective the bottom of the heap is the early Powerglide.

Most people I have known who bought Packards new said they were always putting gas in them. They really didn't like the cars. There were a few exceptions of course. Like Charlie Clancy and his father.
