long weekend update. The car runs again! All of the motor group wiring is done. all that is left is the lighting and switches related to lighting. turn signals and gauges.

pics labeled as to what the wires do. Not to toot my own horn here, BUT THAT is how the wiring should have looked when they converted to 12v to begin with!!

I pulled out the wiring I didn't need. like electric temp/oil gauges, etc. also the horn positive. basically tried to minimize the harness the best I could and keep any rogue 12v power wires from being around when the power is live.

I'm not sure what that long tab piece of metal is for behind the dash, but it made for a GREAT place to mount the fan relay. and provided the ground wire a place to connect as well! perfect!

alternator charges at idle at 13.93 volts. rev up it gets to 14v. probably need to move the sense wire to the battery instead of the battery lug on the back of the alternator like most chevy guys do.

when I turn on the fans....it goes down to 12.98v. fans are some crazy little bastards!

does it matter which post the wires go on on the brake switch? one post is higher then the other. so I put the brake switch power wire on that one and the other is the return wire. doesn't seem like it would matter.

I even put green and yellow stripped shrink wrap on the negative side of the coil. thought it was a clever touch. lol

the wiring under the dash is not finished, so ignore that mess. also the wiring under the hood will be held to the side panel with clamps when I'm done.

thanks for following along. any idea what that metal tab is for that I mounted the relay too? was it just for mounting a ground strap at some point? it is welded to the dash and looks factory to me.

you can see it right to the left of the relay, it is what is suspending the relay in the air. it already had a hole in the end that was the perfect size for a small bolt and nut.

I can't get a good feel for exactly how far away from the side the bracket extends. It could be for a clamp, ground, or if far enough toward center maybe an anchor point for the underdash piece to the defroster. Does the loom portion to the trunk run overhead and if so, where do the wires exit?

here is a better picture of it. loom goes down the frame to rear, not overhead.

I'm jealous of your rewiring skills! Can I have 1 of my cars to spend some time in your garage? (Maybe I'm on to something; wife swap for cars; car swap reality show).

after rewiring this car and now having to wire the 55, I'm gonna be wired out for a good long time. its time consuming tedious work to make it right and look good.

The wiring on the 37 is done. took off work and it was 4 days worth of 8 hours a day to finish it all up.

I really like those E-code headlights. so bright!

side markers changed to orange and are running and turn signal. one thing I have to get used to...no self canceling turn signals...found myself driving with the turn signal on after turning. whoops!

went to the drive-in only to be turned away because the projector refused to work....so we went to my aunt's condo at the T&P building in fort worth. (railroad station) picked them up and drove around downtown fort worth getting hoots and hollers. pulled up to the T&P building and there was a wedding going on....several came out to take photos in and around the car, but the bride was too wasted lol!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%26P_Station

It was fun to see the car sitting in front of a building of the same era! even was asked to drive up the grandson of the architect when they have their open house coming up soon.

that is if this bad news doesn't stop it......

head gasket is obviously blown and probably was when I got the car. it was leaking oil out the side that I cleaned up when I got it...now it is leaking out and way worse.

temp gauge was thought to not read right pegging out at 212...but laser thermometer to the head says 210 after stopping in the garage.

time to look over the cooling system and take off the head to have a looksee loo.

not looking forward to taking the front clip off to clean out the distribution tube, etc.

also fuel pump is giving up the ghost....wont keep the car running at random times...especially up around 50...it will cut out and surge. turn on the electric pump and she is good as gold, but the pressure pushes fuel out of the mechanical pump at the seems. time for a rebuild.

even better...I terminated all of the front wiring not thinking about having to ever take off the front clip....looks like I should have used bullet connecters...womp womp.

this motor really needs to be rebuilt...but that isn't in the cards right now. oil was just all over the coil and the wires and everything. but she got us home...alternating the electric fuel pump on and off and trying to keep the speed under 60.

also forgot to mention. the fuel gauge does not work. reads the same even after I put in 10 more gallons. that is with it running off the 6v regulator. i guess it could be the sender. no idea.

the oil pressure always seems to read 15 even when reving the motor. probably the gauge too i hope. not sure what good pressure is on this motor, but i would assume 30.

need to get some aftermarket gauges and mount them in the glove box to keep them hidden and within reach for quick reading.

Man I hope so. No real idea what is causing the oil to leak... Just guessing head gasket. Gonna go slow taking it apart. Need to check compression on each cylinder first... Never did do that.

I'm just ocd and I gotta have it in tip top shape.
