bhappy,

You're on an Easter-egg hunt. I was on that hunt myself, changing everything and scratching my head. It seems you skipped passed Howard's suggestion on Post#27. This was the cause of the problem with mine. I had no idea the overdrive could completely short-circuit ignition. When I was removing my OD solenoid, I grounded a wire that made the OD relay contacts stick, completely shutting down my ignition. Of course I checked everything else, changed the coil etc...

If you follow Howard's instruction on disconnecting or circumventing the OD, you can eliminate this possibility. Once the OD relay contacts were unstuck everything worked fine.

Worth a try.

Does this model have a filter on the tank sending unit. If so this might also be the problem.

I would like to report that with all the fantastic help you have given, the car is ALIVE and running better than ever
It turned out to be a simple matter of a couple of issues:

1. The short wire between the points and outside distributor connection had long u-shaped connectors that would ground whenever the distributor plate advanced far enough.

2. The point gap was way off, thanks to my failing eyesight.

3. The HT wires were not seated into the distributor cap correctly.

WOW - What an experience and I want to THANK ALL OF YOU FOT YOUR HELP!

But now you can consider yourself quite experienced and well versed with off the wall ignition problems. Maybe more than you wanted to be, but nevertheless, experienced.

Seriously, maddening as it may have been glad it turned out to be something simple. That silly little wire and associated connectors seem to be the cause of a lot of issues.

Thanks to all, I feel well initiated and welcomed to the fold

David, tell Joyce that I'm glad she's happy for me and that I hope that she and her family are well. I want to tell everyone that we are keeping 'Miss Hattie'. After all, I made a promise to Joyce and Larry that I would keep the car original and in great shape
