Roundsy----
Yes, i am going to look at it. With every intention of buying it. This time around I am not looking for a show car. I just want a good driver that I can enjoy on sunny days during our short old car season. I'm in north eastern NH, almost on the Maine border. We get a ton of snow and our season is only May through Oct. So, rest assured i will check it out and try to photograph the data plate and motor numbers and report back.

I believe that the 288 and 327 heads interchange ( the displacement difference comes from the strokes), so do not go by what you see cast on the head, use the engine block number as you said you plan to.

Attached listing(from the Engine Number listing in the Literature and Manuals section, here on Site) is of engine numbers applicable to 22nd and 23rd Series Packards. Should help confirm whether the engine is correct for the car in question.

Hi A Packard Fan
Glad to see you are considering a 22nd-23rd Series model, many very nice examples turn up for sale as those were high production numbers years. I post the better offerings on the 'Various CL Pickings' thread in the cars for sale section when they appear. My advice is to be choosy, investigate a number of cars before you buy. You'll be glad not only in your initial years of ownership and enjoyment but also when you go to sell. The advice here is first rate, we all love to see potential new Packard owners have a good experience, especially with their first car. For comparison, this '49 Eight just turned up in the Boston area. Though a bit pricy, it looks quite good, may be worth your time to inspect as well. Good Luck. https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/cto/d/marshfield-1949-packard/6838317496.html Good luck. Steve

Steve...I understand what you are saying, however I am maxed out at $10k.
I buy something for that price or not at all. Divorce and relocation 14 years ago destroyed my financial well being. That is why after having lots of gorgeous collector cars in my past, I was 14 years without one.

Good Luck to you! These 23 series cars are really nice old girls. Hopefully you can find one within your budget that will do you well enough that you can continue to improve it little by little...that's what we did and our old girl is a joy to drive and play with...Ernie in Arizona
