that is very informative! thanks!

I was talking about the gaps between the rotor gears when they meshed together. seemed like a lot of slop before they touched side to side when rotating back and forth.

according to your attachment...those gaps aren't even measured. good to know. thanks!

Henry, thanks for more updates on your Limo project. You can do a quick check on the cam's condition by measuring the lobes with a mic (digital or analog). The intakes should all be the same and likewise the exhausts. This will give you a quick and good idea if any of the cam lobes are worn. You can also check the bearing journals this way too. Also, look at the bottom of the tappets for wear. They should all look the same, polished, but not cupped. Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice. I look forward to measuring them.

tonight was extracting the rotting cup from the exhaust manifold and drilling the broken bolts out and tapping the holes. should have left the bolts in there to plug the holes...but I didn't like the way it looked.

will have to measure the hole and find a suitable freeze plug to fill it back in

What is with the top hole in image 2980 or what goes in it? It looks really strange. Is that the one you are going to try to find a plug for?

oh lol, I think your eyes are playing tricks on you. The mangled looking mess at the top in 2980 is the cup/plug I took out of the hole at the bottom. I used an air chisel to smoosh it in at the sides of the circle and it just popped right out. I just sat it on the manifold to take a picture next to the hole it came out of.

I'm assuming that normally the hole in the manifold holds the choke for a Stromberg carb, but my car has the carter and a thermostatic choke on the side of the carb.

You're right. I can see the deformities now after looking at it more closely. I thought it was a really weird shaped hole that some strange prewar doodad fit in.

decided the frame needed some love. 3 cans of degreaser....power washer....and this is what I was left with.

so....painted it with Rust-Oleum rust reformer that just happens to be flat black. its not satin...but I like it and it looks WAY better now.

it took 8 cans

For the conversion to Carter carb there was a choke conversion kit that you can make. It consists of a cover plate with 2 ears with holes to mount it on the manifold. In the center is a brass male fitting which you attach the choke to manifold tube to. The cover plate has a small, perhaps 1/16" to 1/8" hole for cold air intake. The chamber between the cover plate and new freeze cup is called the choke stove.

Good going
