Another in-progress update on the development of the prototype 55-56 headers.

I talked to my old supplier on Monday and he said he would get the flanges to me this week. I have solved the production problem for additional ones, but I need to receive the first (prototype) to check for correctness and I need to make minor modifications for such things as installation (slotted bolt holes), generator/alternator mount and oil dipstick tube clearance.

I have gathered a proper variety of mandrel bent tubing for the prototype and later the production headers from a couple of different suppliers. Here's a digipix of samples of the 1-5/8in diameter mild steel 16ga tubing. All bends are Mandrel Bent (no creases or wrinkles):

Here's a labeled digipix of the Driver-side mockup indicating with alphanumeric notation where the various tubes need to be placed. There is a companion file which describes such things as tube size, angle, modifications in detail:

As soon as I receive the flanges, I can commence on the prototype.

Hank,

They should fit. They're the same ones that I have size-wize. But, I'll advise when I get a little further along.

No, on purpose. That text file is a work in progress which will be finalized when I get the prototype done. Before that, it would not be accurate.

Finally, the long awaited pair of mild steel flanges for 1955-56 V-8 Packard. Pictures speak for themselves:

I have to modify them for install, oil dipstick clearance and maybe generator mount. Then I can proceed on with the steel prototype.

Duct tape and bailing wire! (red neck solution -- LOL!)

Actually, I have a good idea how to do it professionally with a steel bracket that bolts to two of the header bolts. When I get it prototyped, of course I'll post a few digipix.

How do you think I lashed together the PVC tube mockup? Use every tool in the tool box.

If you use the extra strength gorilla duct tape, you won't even need to weld them.
