good morning everybody tanks for answers. yesterday night i put seafoam in gas tank and in crankcase and had the engine running for 1 hour at 1500rpm 10 minutes. idle for 3 minutes and again 1500rpm 10 min. and idle 3 min. etc.etc. i heard the engine was running better and smoother it was a fume at tail pipe for about 40 minutes and stopped fuming.i turn the engine off was still running rough at idle i remarked that i have a dead spot at off idle everytime i push on gas pedal. i tried that seafoam because an old machanic not far from here told me that it worked many times for him this morning i will start on removing front clip to get easy access to the engine i plan to remove head and look at valves and cylinders i,ll put pictures of the things later on Maurice

i have a dead spot at off idle everytime i push on gas pedal.

Not necessarily related to internal engine condition, that could simply be a poorly functioning accelerator pump on the carburetor, and/or a leaking distributor vacuum advance unit.

good day everybody i took off clip, cyl. head, and cut the ridge on cyl. no.1 took out the piston the top ring was broken i think it is original piston measures 3.497 piston walls ok no scratches cylinder no scratches clearance between piston and cyl. wall .010-.012. ring gap at 3 inches from top .035 i hope i can put pictures here and i will take out the other pistons Maurice

good afternoon all of you. thanks Joe for answer i removed the damper this morning before removing the engine it took 5 minutes. i will disassemble engine completely this afternoon and i hope i,ll be ready to bring the block to machine shop for rebore monday morning.are there things that i have to pay special attention or it is like other flatheads thank you in advance Maurice

If turning the crank, make sure it's bored straight with the block, or you engine will wear out the bearings in a matter of 5,000 miles.

If the crankshaft needs turning, you'll need to find a shop that can deal with removing and then reinstalling the counterweights. Expect an extra charge above and beyond turning and balancing the crank of about $600 for the counterweight work.

through the current posts.

Not everything is relevant (like work on the driver's door), but most of the rest is. At least you'll be aware of the problems we faced, the advice we received, and how we solved them thus far. Such things as checking with the machine shop that their equipment can handle the width of a 356 manifold.

Sometimes 3 steps forward, 2 steps back, but we are progressing.
