An Index to Service Information for
1941-47 Clipper (19th->21st Series) Packards

Research and Introductions by Brian Harpst
MAIN SERVICE INDEX
     ~1941-47 CLIPPER (19TH->21ST SERIES)

Introduction

The Packard Clipper was first introduced, as a single model (chassis 1951, body 1401), late in the 19th Series run, but it must have been very well-received, as it was expanded greatly, though not completely, through the 20th Series (chassis 2000-01-03-06-10-11). When production resumed after WWII with the 21st Series, the only Packards for 1946-47 were Clippers.

With vehicle production suspended from 1942-1945, focus of the service newsletter shifted toward taking care of vehicles already on the road and contending with growing wartime material restrictions, while developing the dealer body. Meanwhile, the company continued to look to the future.

The Packard Service Letter was rechristened as the Packard Service Counselor for 1944 and would be reduced to a monthly schedule (except for the busy 1947 calendar year). In September 1945, a variety of additional bulletins and letters was announced, each with their own specific mission. Among these was the new Service Technical Bulletin, which followed in the footsteps of the former Technical Letter. Beginning in 1947, the pages of the Service Counselor would be numbered, consecutively, across all issues - from the beginning through the end of each year.

Although Service Technical Bulletins for 1947 and prior calendar years are not yet available here, we decided to open this installment with the information that was presently on file.

If you can provide any of these missing documents, please contact the webmaster, and we’ll assimilate that info accordingly. - BH
