We are trying to organize Packard owners in the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.

We have started a new FB group, Packards of Pittsburgh.

Hopefully we can get a smattering of individuals and have a meet up or two to discuss the topic.

There is no adjustment on the power brake pedal but if it has good assist and stops with only a slight bit of motion it sounds as if it is OK. Check out this 53 commercial starting about the 35 second mark and see how little pedal travel it takes to stop the car.

My 56 Caribbean brake pedal is very high and barely moves, but the car stops well. Do I need to get a new booster/treadle vac (sp). If so, where do I get them?
Thanks

You can just plug the outlet to the heater core and the inlet at the pump side, correct? My understanding is these cars weren't always sold with heaters in the first place.

All my Packards and Henney-Packards had heaters but if they did not come with it, the connections would have been plugged rather than looped around. Doing that makes quite a bit of coolant bypass the radiator.

Very true and both the head and pump ports had a 3/8 NPT pipe plug in the opening if there was no heater. If there is a heater Ross has mentioned several times that if you bypass the heater -- even temporarily -- with a loop of hose it needs to be plugged to prevent a considerable amount of coolant from having a path around the radiator. He has suggested a wooden plug or a marble be inserted in the hose. Just make sure whatever is inserted cannot fit thru the nipple on the head or water pump so it can end up in the engine.

Bother? I've never had trouble with one on many pre-1954 Packards and rather like the looks passengers give what starting the car that way.
