Nice angle in that last pic.

I always like the parallel run of side moldings on the Exec as opposed to the broad downsweep on the flanks of the '56 Clipper Super and Custom. The minmal use of side modlings on the Deluxe offers a nice clean look.

On the other hand, I like the sweeping lines of the side moldings as used on the '55 Clippers - made for some dramatic two-tone paint jobs.

Apparently, Packard engineers felt a second source was a good idea - enough that they added the balancing valve for a vacuum pump piggybacked on the oil pump. The idea behind it all was that as engine demand increased, manifold vacuum feel off, but as engine RPM increased, vacuum generated by the oil pump set-up would increase.

While AM engineers opted for their own oil pump for the Packard V8 installation, sans vacuum pump, they also used vacuum-driven wipers motors. Apparently they liked the balancing act, too, but turned to a dual-action fuel pump as the secondary source.

A 20K lifespan doesn't sound too bad on a car that isn't driven on a daily basis, yet I wonder if that's due to tired old rubber. As BigKev showed us in his article, the dual-action pumps aren't terribly hard to rebuild.

As for authenticity, I've seen more than one V8 Packard at a club show that was refitted with dual-action fuel pump to accommodate for retained vacuum wiper motor when the PI-modified pump was added.

I finally managed to get a better pic in a useable size. Car is repainted, position of the script is on the same height on both sides.

I'd like to contribute with a stork...

...wish it was mine, although it is neither Packard nor 55/56. And it even wouldn't be street legal in my home country

Well observed!

There were arguing in fact, the groom did not want any more photographs taken and the bride was trying to convince him otherwise.

He was humpy, argumentive, sulky, boorish, ill-informed, chauvnanistic and self-opinionated.

She was absolutely gorgeous, intelligent, smart, gracious and well read.

Ps. He is American, she is Irish!

Tell Wade to be careful around those 'gators, they can be pretty mean!

Well, obviously I got the link wrong in my last post, copying the one from the previous post instead. Following, is the correct link, although from the ensuing context in this forum, it was apparently quite easy to get to the articles. After all, it seems even Johg got there without much hassle.

http://www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/vintage_classic_cars

I apologize for messing up on the link citation. But maybe my subconscious mind was influencing me in some way. After all, the mistake was certainly proof of my incompetence. Unfortunately, a golden opportunity was given there to Joht to offer yet another splendid criticism of my efforts, and he failed to pounce on it in the tiger-like fashion he has employed thus far in criticizing my work. So perhaps, I must now apologize to Johy yet again, for not making this opportunity more to his liking. In retributional payment, I may have to locate one of his own many publishing credits, and offer my own courteous personal criticism of it on the bases of scope, intent, context, format, target audience identification, grammatical syntax, structural integrity, mood/attitude, and possible psychological motivating factors... Ehhh, then again, maybe not.

I wish most of you well in your continuing pursuits. It has certainly been interesting, but I am embroiled in what amounts to the project of my lifetime, and I don't have a lot of extra time for detail dissection of what were to some degree entertainment-oriented articles I wrote several years ago. Best wishes, and farewell.

Dan
