Re: 733 ignition system with wrong coil?

Thomas Wilcox
Scott, thanks for the idea. I will check that.

I saw the coil on ebay. It is a repro, and I haven't found anyone with any experience using one. Plus, it doesn't look quite like the original that West has in his car, so I am not sure if it will fit.

I also have an opportunity to buy an original, but non-functioning, coil that could be rebuilt (or just used as a switch until I feel the urge to get it rebuilt).

For now, I have ordered a new standard coil, condenser, and engine wire harness. I am cleaning up the distributor, filing points, etc. I am also going to look into my generator/cut-out and other electrical system bits. After all gets put back together, engine timed, etc. I will let folks know how things are working.

Cheers,

Tom

I'm not sure what your problem is. LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

Unless u have some reason to believe the trans fluid has become contaminated , like maybe the car sat in water up to its headlites or something like that, then there is NO reason to change the fluid.

Trans fluids (stick or auto), axle grease, and radiator coolant "regular changes" are an automotive fallacy. I have vehicles here NOW aswell as morethan i can count on all of my fingers and toes that i have ran well over 100K miles and as long as 20 years and NEVER changed the trans, axle or radiator fluids. When service required draining i usually put the old fluids back in ESPECIALY antifreeze. Of course ENGINE oil and filter is a completely different issue. Antifreeze should be checked with a hydrometer EVERY fall.

I'm using Dexron and Dexron/Mercon in my 56 T'ultra now for 20K miles and 8 years with NO problems. In fact, i buy the CHEAPEST i can find at a local "dollar" store.

Why do I have the feeling that this is going to look like one of those VW Bug Rolls Royce conversions?????

Actually, I was thinking of putting it on a 56 Pat T/L frame, dual turbocharged 327 straight 8 drawing through 2 x 4 bbl's, T56 6 speed trans. 4 wheel disc brakes not to mention a 4" section and assorted other mods but decided against it in the end. I just thought I'd let someone else do that and could imagine that a Mayfair coupe done this way would be exceptional. What do you think Eric?

I'm going to stick to the VW Bug Rolls Royce conversion look. After all, Livinia's only 18 months old, and she's just happy to have her own wheels albeit with a 61 year old grandfather as motive power.

And talking about Rolls Royces - Early one Sunday morning while out for a leisurely drive in the '38 sedan and passing through the local shopping centre a bloke on his way home from an obviously big night out cries out "Look, it'ssssh a Rollssh Roysssh". Gave him a wave and continued on my drive but now with an even bigger smile on my face!

I will post a pic once the VW Bug Rolls Royce conversion is complete.

Al: Could you please answer a question for me? You stated that you showed OUR sweet #139. Do you show the Caribbean at car shows for Mr. & Mrs. Gallatin of Cookesville,TN. who is listed as the owners of the Caribbean.

From your posts and recent conversation in the chat room. I got the impression that you owned the Packards, that you have posted pictures of and talked about.

I see that your granddaughter car is center steer rather than right or left hand drive I assume that makes her a center of the road type. Spending time with your grandchildren is a very good reason to not be working under your project family comes first.
