What's the head and cylinder look like. Think what you get will be determined by rest of cylinders and general shape engine in -- does it have to be bored?

If you get the Egge be sure and set them up with the the wider skirt clearance recommended by others in the forum NOT the specs in Packard Manuals. Voice of hard learned experience here.

me and my dad were looking at my one bad piston tonight, scrapped on it and found this. it looks like something was hitting the crap out of the cylinder. just a bunch chunks and divots.

so...1 of 2 things.

order all new Egge.

or buy 1 piston from one of you guys willing to sell.

later,

Hank

I agree. The U.S. Auto makers made their share of mistakes, but I wonder how well they could do with the Billions of Dollars that we are pumping into the banks and AIG.They produce nothing but bad debt.At least the Auto makers employ people who make something useful. It is sad.The U.S. has become a Third world "has been" that hasn't figured it out yet.

The problems that are facing GM today are of their own doings not the bankers in this case.

If you follow the history of GM the start of the decline began when Roger Smith became CEO of GM around 1981. Before Smith became CEO GM was decentralized in its decision making. Roger put all decision making under one roof were the decision making became bogged down under a centralized system.

The biggest mistake made by Smith was starting Saturn, which during the time took much needed money from r&d from the core brands of GM.Saturn only turn a profit one year in the 20 that it has been in production. GM in keeping Saturn afloat dumped many billions of dollars down a black hole.

The bottom line is that CM with all the brands they have been trying to support just became to dam big to support it self and make a profit.

Roger Smith without a doubt has to be the one of the worst GEO"S that GM ever had with the exception of Billy Durant.

Speaking of block heaters.... here is a trick I have used successfully on cars, trucks and even a diesel tractor.

I slide an electric frying pan under the engine then lift it up on blocks so it is right up against the oil pan, or as high as I can get it. Plug it in and in a half hour or hour your engine will be toasty warm and easy to start.

You can buy a frying pan for $5 bucks at a yard sale or thrift store and keep it around the garage.

If you use your wife's be sure you wipe off the grease and put it back where you found it.

The way the economy is going antique cars are likely to be very hard to sell, and very hard to finance, for the forseeable future.

Experts are saying the present deflation period may last for years. It is possible that if you were ever forced to sell you would get half what it was worth before the deflation set in.

Prices have not dropped that much yet and they may never do so. But unless I could afford to blow $100,000 and laugh it off I wouldn't take the chance.

Have you heard the latest? Obama announced on Monday that unless GM can negotiate with their creditor to renew $1 billion of short term debt, there will be no bailout.

http://bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aCgxXtzF6ki8&refer=home

This effectively means GM is doomed and the white house knows it. Here's why.

The big banks are not going to negotiate on that debt if they have Credit Default Swaps from AIG. So far, everyone who holds such CDS's has been paid off 100% by the US taxpayer. So why should they take any less?

They will let GM go into bankruptcy before they do that.

The banks know this and the white house knows this.

The union will have to reduce their health care fund demands as well. Fat chance. They have already made their position plain.

Too bad about the little guys who hold GM notes with no CDS protection. Too bad about the shareholders. Too bad about their creditors, the parts suppliers who will go bankrupt, and all the GM employees and others who get hosed.

But it might just save GM. If they can be reorganized with no debt and no pension liabilities, basically start over from scratch, they should be able to compete in the market and show a profit.

It's interesting that the president and congress will pay anything - ANYTHING - billions or trillions of dollars to bail out the crooks who caused this mess. Even though the dud banks could be written off and no one would miss them. But they won't do anything to keep the auto industry in the US, even though once it's gone it can never be replaced.

O ya the president's advisers are all from the same banks that caused this mess in the first place.
