BigKev,

Thanks. I must be going bigger than the pic size allowed. I'll have to call in my technical support, AKA #1 Son, to help me with it soon.

BTY just tried again, no luck, in fact I only managed to delete the picture of my '41 somehow!

Ain't it the truth, Peter.

That's what made me shy away 25 years ago from attempting to procure $500 worth of new leather piston seals from Albert Trostel and Sons, the manufacturer of the replacement seals found in Bendix repair kits...the originals were made by Chicago Rawhide.

That and the $500 minimum order!

But that sheared compensator valve poppet and stem of yours might be used to refurbish an old stem with a bad seal. If you take a close look the part's design, there is a flange on the stem and a spring-steel speed nut that holds the rubber seal against it.

I seems to me, just from looking at the part, the speed nut could be removed (preferably by breaking it, and eventually replacing it with a new one of the same size), and the old rubber seal with the indentation, slid off the stem and replaced with the good seal from the sheared stem.
It's possible the old spring steel nut could be salvaged off the sheared stem by cutting the broken tip off right at the nut.

Keep the parts anyway...you never know when something stuck in an old Band-Aid tin will be useful!

Everything looks ok with your account. Just try to upload a new Avatar for your account. The avatar must be 120 x 120 pixels or smaller. Once you update your avatar, the envelope will be replaced with your uploaded pic.

Looking at your profile for some reason you have an envelope selected as your avatar. You can even see that here in the forums right under your name.

Let me go check your account and make sure nothing is funky.

I believe I'm correct when I say that all the 37 models, 110, 120, Super Eight and Twelve all used pumps with ring packing and oilers, and in 1938 the 110 and 120 converted to packless pumps with sealed bearings; the Super Eight and Twelve retained the old style pump thru 1939.

I agree with you. I believe the motor needs to be pulled out. I know a good repair shop for it if I can't fix it. Is there anything special to know about pulling it out. It looks like there is a bolt in the housing where the motor shaft goes into the compensator drive unit and must be removed to permit the motor to separate from the compensator. I"ll pull the brain box out and take a look at it on the bench.

BigKev,

On the Chat room with Turbopackman this morning, Sydney time, and Eric noted I have an "envelope" above my forum name. I thought it might be a lack of an avatar which I can't get to load but don't really know. Said I'd PM you, but decided to do it here instead so all can share.

Enjoyed the chat room experience as I'd never done it before. Another trick this old dog learned.

Mr.Pushbutton
when the arm of the compensator control box (AKA--brain box, black box, delay switch) is in its center detent nothing should be happening. Nothing, no noise, no clicks. It is a spring-loaded bi-directional switch that is open when at its center detent. With the power on and the adjustible link-arm form the torsion bar disconnected, and you disconnect the orange and blue wires from the control box (the orange and white wires that go to the solenoids, not the limit switches on the leveler gear box) and hold the control lever either side of center (for the period of the time delay, 5-9 seconds)you should hear the relay inside the control box click. That indicates that the time delay and relay for that direction works. It should be sending a ground to the terminal on the solenoid via either the blue or orange wires.
I going to go out on a limb and suggest that you have a compound problem, a fried motor and some kind of control system problem, perhaps the control box. About 20 years ago I fixed a '56 Clipper with a fried motor for a guy. Took the motor off and took it to a good starter/alternator place, they understood what it was and what needed done. One week later we had the car going up and down.
It was music to his ears (at least that's what he said)

Tom,

Looks good. Some questions.

Shop is Odyssey Restorations - What is the Hot Rod with the 33/34 Ford Grill doing there? Not a shot at rods, just curious.

What was the problem with the defective new rear gears?

What's the 1104's current status?

And had a look at AACA and the comments there. It's good to see the history and the interaction with others who also know the car.

All the best.
