It's real simple why people are coming here. This site is more suited to the needs of it's members, plain and simple. There's more information here, already, than on any other "Packard" site I've ever seen, including mine. (Which is why I'm here, too.)

Joe, do you remember exactly what year/make of car you got the "early GM pulley" and the "BBC 21.5" clutch fan" from? Is the pulley a single or double groove? I'm almost there with my fabrication, but it sure would help to know where to go looking for these last two items. Thanks.

Pushbutton: You made a statement the other day in another thread about the AACA forum being deadsville and Packard people coming to this forum.
Brian stated some of the reasons why the AACA forum is in on the ropes. Just sit back and look at what information and technical help the AACA provides for Packard people. The PAC website offers some useful information when it comes to model identification, but lacks a good forum and there is no technical help when a problem comes up with our Packards. Look and compare and see what the others have to offer, and then you see why the Packard people are flocking to this site. There are other reasons why the AACA forum is DOA. If you do come to Warren this weekend we can talk about those person to person. That conversion can take place after we talk about another matter. John F. Shireman

It clacks hot or cold. There are no broken springs and all the valves appear to be opening and closing. I think I'll see if I can find some tubing to isolate the location of the noise as you suggest.

John, does your car have regular coil springs in front and leafs in the rear or do you have torsion-level suspension??
If you already said so I didn't catch it.

Last week I started work on the garage and here are some pictures of the garage before starting renovations.
The first two pictures are of the bay that is uninsulated and the divideing wall in between the two bays of the garage. The last two pictures are of the work bay that is insulated. On this side of the garage is were the Pakcard is stored. In this bay I have installed some of the comforts of home. It is equiped with a stero, tv, ac, and electrical heat. Later in the week I will post more pictures of the remodeling that is taking place. John F. Shireman

Thanks Brian for responding. That's why I asked first.
The ones I want to Thank are all businesses, or members here and not individuals, . These folks provided me with the information we needed to diagnose and fix our Lady, and not once did they profit or try to sell us anything. They gave us things like - head torquing sequences and valve adjustment procedures. Some even offered to loan us tools we didn't have. Without their help she would still be broken or setting in an expensive garage somewhere. These are truly Gentlemen I want to deal with again. David of David Moe Packard Parts - Marysville WA. Murray of Murray Motor Cars - Monroe WA Danny of K Gap Hudson Parts - Landcaster CA Bill Albrite Restorer - Fontana CA And last but not least Turbopackman for pointing me to this site

Does the noise happen all the time or when the engine is cold? hot? Valve lifter may be defective and you should be able to isolate the noise with a stethescope or a piece of rubber hose. If it's the lifter you will have to remove the head and remove the valve to lift out the assembly. If it's sticking you might try running a can of Seafoam or even a quart of tansmission fluid in the oil for a couple of hundred miles and see if that will clean it up.
