Thanks for the prompt response.
I had one bearing disintegrate while I was driving..but I shut it down immediately...so THAT journal MIGHT be damaged. I know the solution is always...just do a total overhaul...but sometimes that is not as feasible as it sounds. I am not looking to drive the car another 80,000 miles..just want to get it back on the road. Bob

Third Series SIX rods

I have a Third Series SIX that needs rod bearings.
What does it take to remove the rods? Can one just remove the head and pull the rod up, or is the lower end of the rod wider than the 3.5" bore?...in which case the lower end of the engine has to be disassembled! Would like to hear from anyone who has crossed this bridge. Bob

I have an owner's manual for this radio.
It looks like a '50s style, but nowhere on the 4 pages can I see a date. One control knob is PA-416335 if that is any help. Back page has this diagram.... Thanks for looking...

Unfortunately, Packard did not put part numbers on the paper and also on many of the exterior trim pieces I have.
Somewhere on this dang computer is a picture of the manufacturers mark....will keep looking for the file.... This is not part of the 3 piece rear window that the Senior models had.

I have two NOS rear windows that I believe are for a '51-52 Junior.
Still in original paper wrapping. Will take $100 each or both for $175....but you have to pick them up....Near Katy, TX...west of Houston. Considering going to Chickasha next year....if so, would bring them FREE for prepaid customer..... Bob

Third Series SIX rod bearings

Does anyone know if a modern replacement with slight modification can be used in the restoration of these engines?
Originally they were babbited. Our late Third Series SIX...one of the rod babbits disintegrated, and I find that another bearing is worn thin. I know that the 1937 Super Eight can use a Mopar slant six bearing, so I wondered if any modern adaptation has been discovered for the Third Series Six. I await your responses to our problem... We have two Third Series Sedans. Both are registered as 1925, but one is an early and one is a late....they differ with many features.
Packard did not label them as 1925 or 1926. The early has 5 lug wheels, the late...6 lug, etc, etc, etc. Packard was evolving at that time. Both have different numbers on the frame vs engine...onlyone has a data plate which is also different. All I can say is....ENJOY your car and don't get too hung up on numbers like folks with '57 Chevys..... Bob and Gail

Many thanks for the prompt responses...
Our LeBaron has the modern Mopar slant 6 bearing (but the rods had to be built-up to accommodate for the thrust size) ...didn't know of the SIX had any 'upgrades'. Bob

Third Series SIX rod bearings

We have a Third Series Six Sedan.
The rod bearing babbit is very thin and needs to be replaced before it disintegrates and damages the crank. Does anyone out there know of a modern bearing replacement, or do I have to have new babbit poured? This engine was used in other Series, so I hope someone out there has some good words for me.....
