Its been listed on craigs list several times......It would make a good parts donor and offer up some worthwhile parts.......notice the oil pump sitting on the front seat.....$1500.00 is a bit optimistic considering its poor condition.....

I have a '56 Nash Ambassador Custom with the Packard V8 and aluminum cased Ultramatic...rather rare car with factory air (the Weather Eye) and power windows (not many Nash's were equipped with 'push button windows'....) The Nash people are usually easy going about the jokes with their cars...(usually)...and you haven't lived until you've had to change a tire on a Nash with those enclosed fenders.... btw....The Nash equipped cars with the Packard V8's seldom experienced the oil pump/bearing problems due to a different oil pump and oil pan... And the Ultramatic is an entirely different beast when coupled with a torque tube and four coil springs that the Nash chassis had.....

There are a lot of questions you could ask the guy to help identify the car.....: If it has squeeze type door handles its a NASH.. if it has a handle that you push with your thumb to open the door its a PACKARD. If the headlights are in the grill...its a NASH.... If the gas filler is on the passenger side its a NASH...if its on the drivers side its a PACKARD. If it looks like its standing still even when its moving...its a NASH...... If it looks like its moving...even when its standing still.. its a PACKARD.... see its really very easy... Ha.......

56/56 Ambassadors were supplied with the Packard V8, but were really not "Ramblers"...rather they were sold under the NASH name... If the car does indeed have torsion level, it can't be anything but a Packard...there was of course no such thing as a 'Packard Ambassador'.....J.J. Nance would be spinning in his grave at the thought (!), and so would George Romney...come to think of it !

Rules of Etiquette should apply to everyone on this site and to all the posts and posters....
Taken from the Rules of Etiquette as listing on the FAQ's.... Rule #3 and Rule #10.... Rule #3: 3) Broken Records: No one likes the same old stories or opinions rehashed every time someone asks a similar question. If you have something new to add great, otherwise we have already heard it. Rule #10: 10) Purist vs. Modder's: If some one posts a question about how to fix or rebuild something (like the BTV), then obviously there are looking to preserve it, and are not asking to upgrade, replace, reengineer it. So please let the folks that can answer their question about fixing it help them, without the modification sidebars hijacking the thread. Nothing turns a new Member away faster than bickering folks. Also, along those same lines, if someone comes posts a question about modern conversions, replacements, upgrades, etc, then let the folks that can answers those questions do so with out berating the Gentlemen about keeping it original. Equal time folks, equal time. Thank You

Thank you for the responses......Yes, my first thought was low/leaking vacuum source.....I guess I should have mentioned that I did change the check valve on the end of the carburetor with a known good one without any change (still hard brake pedal upon start up)... I have read (over and over I might add) all the posts on this site of the BTV discussions and controversy.... Like many others I am trying to keep my car as original as possible (but I am not adverse to updating in the name of safety). I have had a '57 Lincoln with a BTV for 27 yrs...rebuilt it once and its still doing fine. I have a '56 Nash Ambassador with a BTV (also rebuilt) doing fine....Recently sold a '57 Buick with the Moraine unit...rebuilt it once and it was just fine for years....its just with my Packards that I seem to have a problem.... I realize that just posting a fault symptom on here cannot always lead to a cut and dried solution...that the correction is quite often situational....I just thought perhaps someone else might have the same problem...of a hard pedal only upon start up....Again, I appreciate all the responses and if and when I correct it...will post what the problem was and how I was able to correct it....I'm 99% sure its a vacuum problem.. either in the BTV or the associated hoses/parts with the system.....

I'd be very interested in hearing some opinions on this problem.... My '55 Patrician that does not get driven very much has the same problem....(it also had a rebuilt BTV from Florida).......My very hard pedal seems to be a lack of vacuum boost.....I still have brakes IF I push the pedal very forcibly. However IF I let the car sit at idle for 10 to 15 minutes to warm up....the vacuum boost returns and is fine for the rest of the day..... any thoughts? PS...I check the fluid almost every time I start the car....and for the past 4 yrs I never seem to lose a drop....its always up where it should be....
