Barrie, Most 23rd series Packards (1949-50) had 2" tailpipes. The standard 8 and super 8 used a 2 and 1/4" head pipe, muffler with 2 and 1/4" inlet and 2" outlet. This would be as original. Good luck
Custom 8 used a 2 and 1/2" head pipe and muffler with a 2 and 1/2" inlet and 2" outlet.

Dave, The tailpipe on my 46 clipper deluxe is 1"and 3/4". The tailpipe on my 47 super clipper is 2". Your car has the incorrect size tailpipe. I would also check muffler outlet -it should be 2" id.

The routing of the tailpipe is incorrect. It should go over the rear stabilizer bar(fifth shock). I've just replaced my exhaust system and the repro tailpipe was two pieces which made installation easy.

Re: Will bell housing, manifolds from 288 fit 356?

I said no, but I could have said yes BUT. First the 288 is not correct for 1947. And definitely not a 1947 Super Clipper. The 356 engine hang-ons such as starter, manifolds, carb, air cleaner, distributor etc etc. would be different. The part numbers confirm the difference. .Auto-lite ignition came on the car from the factory. If originality is not the concern there is always the Hollander exchange manual which would help in parts substitution. Just my 2 cents from info given. If the price is right buy the engine, they are becoming rare. Only used from 1940-1950.

Your ornament was an accessory on your Clipper. According to my parts book the accessory ornament does not have a parts breakdown. I checked group
0.0345 and found what I think is the screw size you need --6 each 10-24 x 1/2". Good luck
