Fantastic! I have seen a few things that would be great editions.

Thanks again,
Jim

Jim,

I checked the Dealer Listings, and looked at both the database tables from the old server and the new, and they match. The "very old" Dealers modules had a limit on the amount of the characters that the database would save in one field. So even though you could have type pages and pages of text into the form, the database table would only store the first 255 characters. This was one reason why I rewrote the Dealer module 2 months ago. When the new Dealer Module went up, I imported that old data into it, so those trucated entries came with it. So this problem was actually there from the start. But any new info added the to dealers will allow you to insert "War and Peace" into the descriptions and wont exibit the same problems. So this issue was not caused by the move to the new server.

I wondered if the dealer descriptions were that way before or not. Thanks for checking. Just a thought for the future; will there ever be an opportunity to post images of dealer specific items such as the Earle C. Anthony brass service your car at ####### miles, or dealer license plate frames and so on? This would be a neat edition to the dealer directory.

Kev, not sure if the dealer directory was effected, but take a look at C.W. Upchurch and Co. It looks like the post is cut off. I noticed this on a few other dealer descriptions.

Looks like the fix you mentioned in the thread "new web server" fixed my thread as well. Boy, for a second I thought it was just me.

Kev, my posts seem to be drooping content between posting, and the next day. I edited my reply to West when I saw it dropped the last part of the last sentence, but see the last post above consists of "it" and am sure I posted more than one word.

Any thoughts?

Re: Sealed beam conversion kits

I have had good luck with halogen conversions on older motorcycles. My Packard came with halogen conversions (the previous owner mentioned it was fairly pricy), and frankly, I was very excited and figured that would be neat. As I got into working out the gremlins, I noticed that the aftermarket amp gauge drew way down with the headlamps on, yet charged well in the park and off position of the headlight switch.

At about the same time, I wondered, "why was the amp gage not working?" I have seldom seen a bad amp gauge. I disassembled the amp gauge and found it had jumped the discharge stop. Fixed that, and thought, hmm, generator barley breaks even with the headlights on, amp gauge needle yanked over discharge stop.

Changed out to sealed beams, and presto, car charged with headlights on, amp gauge behaved perfectly.

Here's what I don't know: what the wattage of the low and high beams are. Very possibly they were abnormally high, and basically an improper application.

I would strongly suggest finding out what the low and high beam wattage is and compare to what the wattage of the originals were. I have certainly had good luck in other applications (usually where an alternator is utilized)

Best of luck,
Jim

It's straight bourbon whiskey 80 proof. On second thought, maybe we should investigate closer after we've been through the swap meet. I would hate to think of what one of us might find in the garage the next morning!

Oh Dave, that would mean we would have to take a cab to the PI meet! Maybe we can polish it off and Sam can drive

You ever seen anything like this?

Debbie spotted it at the AACA meet in Prescott a few weeks ago. I looked here and there online and didn't manage to find out a thing.

West, I agree that this would not suit as an actual piece on the car. It is sure surprising how substantial a piece it is. Certainly makes an interesting conversation piece. I would take this to work and put in my book case, but I'm not sure the full of liquor part would go over so well.

Mr. Pushbutton, Thanks for the link and tip on resizing images. I will give this a try. May also come in handy when I try to email images.

Thanks all,
Jim

1937 is above the hood.

The car and word Packard and year are fired into the glass (I assume it is glass). I had never seen a decanter like this, but I am not really a decanter collector.
