vacuum gauge install
Home away from home

I would like to install a StewartWarner vacuume gauge in my '53 2bbl Clipper when I get her back together, and am not sure where I should pull my vacuume tap from. I don't have power brakes, so as I remember there is a vac tap in the manifold on the backside of the plenum...would that be a good vac source? I don't really want to T into the line going to the distributor.
Thanks for your advice. If I have to drill and tap a whole in the plenum area, I could also do that, but if there is an available tap, then all the easier.

Re: Fuel Line wow's

I ran a new fuel line in my 53 Clipper with one piece of cunifer tube. It was pretty easy to work with. I had a Lift and the engine was out which made things easier. Only had a simple tubing Bender and flare tool. Practice making a few flares on the bench before you do it on the car. I would also Try and Remote a few of The body Supports on that side to make more room to work. Between The clutch pedal area and Firewall was a Little tricky. But is a do-able Job. Good luck!

Interesting...so do you have for each one of those things a porcelain resister inline? Do you still have a Generator or a modern alternator?

Cool website, I wonder if the solid state generator cutout would work on our systems also? I only see 2 terminals and I know my voltge regulator has 3 terminals....

R11 OD Trans with 12volt?

Hi Guys, Hope I get my car back together this sumer for some high speed autobahn-storming and on my list of things to acquire is an OD Trans, but since my car has been converted to 12 Neg Ground, will I have to get a particular solenoid or relay for the trans?
For the relay I bet something can be found as an easy substitute, but the solenoid is attached to the side of the trans from what I see. Did the 55/56 cars come with the R11 OD Trans? If so, then I guess that makes things easier.

Car is currently a 3speed man without OD.

Dankesch?n!

In Germany here I take the 'airplane' Ornament off of my 53 clipper for The inspection. Then I just put it back on afterwards!

Re: cone balance or lug-centric balance

I never heard of this problem, or ever saw a lug centric balancing machine before. If that is your biggest problem, then I wish I had a packard that ran as well as yours! ha. Surprised nobody commented on this, but I think any normal balancing machine would be fine.

Amazingly, a packard straight eight fits sideways in a renault clio. (small 2door hatchback) Not sure if I will ever repair this cracked block, it will sit in my basement for a while...4cyl turbo diesel in the front and a NA 8 cyl in the back. Thought you guys would get a kick out of seeing this picture.

Location for end of fuel line.

Can somebody please post a picture of where the fuel line should end on a 53 clipper (Engine side). I would like to end the new line and make the flare before putting the engine in there, since it will give me some more room to work. Couldn't find a real good pic online.
I got the repro hose from niagara packards, so the original location and direction of the flare would be a great help.
No real rush on a photo, I won't be back to the car for a week or so.
Tank, rear shocks, and fuel line back in the car. It's a good feeling to be bolting a car back together. Thanks guys, Tobs
