Thanks for the reply. What brand of oil do you use and where do you get it? I've tried Napa, but what I bought was what they had. If I want to get the stuff that is not limited slip...what brand should I buy...where do I get it?

Thanks,
Scott

'39 Packard 110 Transmission Fluid (& Rear Dif Fluid)

I believe I have read that the tranny fluid for the '39 110 is the same fluid as the rear dif. I recently changed the rear dif fluid and I used SAE 85W140 limited slip Heavy Duty Hypoid API/GL-5 Plus fluid. First off, I'd like confirmation that I used the right fluid, second, I'd like to make sure I can use the same in the Tranny.

I'm planning on swapping cars for a few weeks with my father in law...I have the best of both worlds, as he has a Morgan +8. I want to make sure I change the fluids before I make the trek for the swap next weekend.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks all for the warm welcome and timely and thorough information. I'm sure I'll post every now and then regarding my ongoing saga to keep "Doc" (what my 3 year old calls the car) running.

I'm likely one of the youngest members of the forum...so pass the knowledge on to me and I'll carry the torch! I'm 39 years old and my son wants to get on the creeper with me any chance he can.

Regards,
Scott

What is this Ball Joint from tranny on '39 110 and why is it disconnected?

Hello,
First post here. One of many future ones I suppose.

I bought a '39 six last fall and have enjoyed driving it with the kids. In the process of changing the oil, I noticed a ball joint that seems to be disconnected. I'm a bit of a novice here, so please don't flame my ignorance. I can move the alternator, change fluids and filters, put a grease gun on a nipple, and things of that sort.

Can anyone answer what the ball joint is for...why it might be disconnected from the socket below, and what to do to fix it? Also, what danger it poses driving without it attached? This is the first time that I've been underneath the car, so I don't know how long it has been driven with it disconnected.
