Have seen where people take BB’s and ball bearings and shook the tank with them inside to break up all the sludge inside………it took an hour of tilting the tank back and forth, but it did produce results.

Hey Ernie,
are you near Prescott? Will be visiting Sedona and visiting a cousin there in a couple of weeks.
Got a question, are there any boneyards of old cars near there? I’d like to find a source of mechanical parts for my ‘49 straight 8 touring sedan.
Thanks
Doc!
Happy New Year 🎊🎆

Did a complete rebuild on my fuel/vacuum boost pump solved the problem. It seems somebody had been into it before and reassembled the vacuum side one way valves in wrong and: no vacuum. Still need to check for vacuum leaks or maybe a wiper motor rebuild. There was tons of coffee ground looking stuff in the fuel side bowl so I put a clear NAPA fuel filter ahead of the pump to protect all my hard work. It has a newish fuel tank on it but taking no chances.

Yeah i noticed the washers on the rods, primitive true, but effective. The part with the spring on it has me baffled, I’m not sure it’s the right part-or either its been modified, doesn’t look like what I can see in the 1940’s WDO service pics. Well, it ran before I took it off guess my goal is to make it run (better) after I put it back on 😅.

I might need some parts too, I think I might have a Carter wdo “ Frankencarb” because some things just don’t look right.

Doc
Hi there
I saw this device on my wdo carb assumed it had something to do with the starter or OD.
I removed it and disassembled it carefully and cleaned each component using a small brass brush and a sprits of carb cleaner. Will ohm test its function before installing the carb snd connecting the wires. I was impressed with the ingenuity in this design as it breaks the circuit as the engine starts and the incoming air keeps the butterfly open to keep the circuit open.
You can see it on the left lower of the image.

Thanks Dave! I reached out to Mikes Carburetor (where I got my kit) to get help also. You guys have never let me down!
But I do think that my wdo has been violated by someone in the past who lacked experience in carbs and mangled the metering rod spring. Sure wish I had modern pics or a video that would take you through the process for us greenhorns. Think my wdo might be a Frankencarb of miscellaneous parts.
