Hello Howard,

Thanks for replying.

I continue to learn.

Your comments on the aluminum head and the Ultramatic transmission are very helpful.

The 53 Mayfair I saw was up for auction and went for a price within my range when the time comes.

The car looked good inside and out and under the hood. It was an older restoration but the car was clean inside and under neath.

It was the ivory/beige with a maroon top.

There is a picture of one like it in the photo gallery.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Hello,

I recently saw a 53 Packard Mayfair for auction and this had me wondering.

Is a 53 or 54 a better choice mechanically than a 55 or 56?

Is the straight 8 with automatic transmission better than the V8 with automatic transmission?

The 53 Mayfair I saw was very appealing. Its appearance to me at least seemed more appealing when I think of the body and beltline.

How involved is a change from 6 volt to 12 volt and can air conditioning and disc brakes be retrofitted to any of these years.

Thanks,

Richard

Thanks for the quick response.

I recently read that there was a service bulletin issued regarding the manual gear selector and the positioning of the linkage when the selector was in park. Apparently some Ultramatic selector lever stalks were bent because of incorrect attempts to repair.

Does this help in identifying the service bulletin I have seen a reference to?

Thanks,

RICHARD CL

Hello,

Could anyone tell me where I could find the service bulletin referred to in the subject line?

I am trying to learn as much as I can before I purchase a 55 or 56 when I retire.

Thanks in advance for helping me.

Hello,

What is the normal gas mileage in the city and on the highway for the V8's? I am a Canadian and I would imagine that the responses will be in US gallons which are four fifths of the Imperial measure that was used here in Canada.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Out of curiosity what is the overall quality of the 55 model year? Meaning are there any particular issues to be aware of?

This model year is of interest as it is the year I as born and is appealing visually. I hope to be able to buy one when I retire.

Hello,

Has anyone air conditioned a 49 or 50 Packard? I am interested in knowing if this is possible and how complicated it is to do. Thanks for any help.

Richard
