Hello,

Could anyone tell me where I could find the service bulletin referred to in the subject line?

I am trying to learn as much as I can before I purchase a 55 or 56 when I retire.

Thanks in advance for helping me.

Richard CL

Not quite sure what you are looking for as there were dozens of bulletins that touched on the Ultramatics. PAC sells a nice compilation of all service bulletins year by year. Do you have a specific question?

please feel free to see my blog, it is a good place to see what all is entailed when restoring one (minus recent posts as i'm not repainting it). plus all the break downs of the parts, including the trans that I rebuilt.

Thanks for the quick response.

I recently read that there was a service bulletin issued regarding the manual gear selector and the positioning of the linkage when the selector was in park. Apparently some Ultramatic selector lever stalks were bent because of incorrect attempts to repair.

Does this help in identifying the service bulletin I have seen a reference to?

Thanks,

RICHARD CL

There were several bulletins on sticking in park but I think these service counselor articles were the pertinent items that could result in a bent operator lever.

You can go to the service index link on the left and under 55 twin ultramatic, you will find direct links to all the counselors and bulletins available on site for download.

Unfortunately, those compilations only cover the Packard Service Counselor - a periodic service newsletter.

Though Packard Service Technical Bulletins sometimes duplicates what was (later) published in the newsletter, they often provide additional information. There were also many articles on postwar Packard product published in the Studebaker Service Bulletins through 1961.

WRT the 1955-56 Twin Ultramatic, all but about six documents are conveniently accessible from this site's archive, via the online Service Index.

It is great to be pointed in the right direction by fellow Packard enthusiasts who take the time to answer a request such as mine.

could this be a problem,,

today machine shop mic'd my nos rear pump, this is where the planetary fits into. the bore is out of round. so the bushing would fit that out of round bore, with that heavy planetary , that shaft is going to be out a wack.

I am replacing that lead bushing with al bronze , so it will be bored round. picture on blog.

so can this be another , doom that trans has, and been over looked?..
