1942 180 formal sedan

My brother found this 1942 Packard 180 formal sedan in Iowa circa 1997. It looks to be a parts car, terribly crumpled fenders, totally trashed interior. However, it was surprisingly complete, right down to the taillight lenses. If I remember correctly, it only had about 40,000 miles on the odometer.

Parts car??? Sounds more like a good project car for someone wanting a prewar Packard.

He dragged it home to Minneapolis. Perhaps not the most recommended way of doing it.

What's that funny looking radiator behind the grille?

Perhaps the "shade-tree" controls under the dash have something to do with it.

My brother was 36 years old when he bought this, and never had taken a car apart before, let alone do a restoration.
I think he backed up the Dempsy Dumpster. Note how solid the floors are. There seems to be no need to remove the body from the chassis. As with most original 180 Packards, the bottoms of the doors have had plenty of power fluid leaking to disintegrate much of the bottoms.

Taking a car apart is kind of like drinking from a spittoon, once you start, it's kind of hard to stop.
