Hi, I need help in identifying a Packard that appears to be 1930.
The data tag is missing and the body number is 123983 or is it I23983 ( pic attached) The VIN number on the title is 280257. Is there any way that the correct year, series and type can be identified ? Please advise. Regards, Dev PS Attached pics of the Body number and the car Attach file: IMG_20220207_190346.jpg (100.69 KB) IMG-20220207-WA0125.jpg (190.76 KB) IMG-20220214-WA0088.jpg (106.63 KB)

Your car is a 1930 Model 733 seven-passenger touring, body style #400.
The number on the firewall is a theft-proof number, not a "VIN." The #280257 is more than likely the number on your engine. Look at the left front engine mount horn. It's stamped on the top. You have a very rare 3-door hood. That was an option. Normally the 733 would have louvers.

West, wouldn't the doors in the hood sides make it either 740 or 745?

No. A 740 and 745 would have four doors, and the sweepspear on the beltline, along with much bigger headlights. Also, a 745 would have the long sweeping fenders. Wheel size would also give it away. The 7267/733 had 20-inch wheels, while the 740-745 had 19-inch wheels.
This is a very rare optional 3-door hood for the 726/733 models.

Not trying to be snooty, but only the 734 and 745 had the hood arrow.

Many thanks for the valuable advise .
By any chance , does anyone know the history of the car? The car is said to be in the Packard Museum till 2011 but the collection manger , who joined later, doesn't remember her. It was said to be part of Jack Eichelberger collection but is unconfirmed. Experts, please guide me to restore her in the original color and upholstery she sported when rolled out of the factory. Thanks in advance. Dev
