I don't know for your car specifically, but it's hard to imagine that 0 gauge would be too thin even for 6 volt.
Even at 300 amps a 2ft length would have a voltage drop of only like .1V

I've got a 00 gauge cable on my '29 - seems to work pretty well.

I would also go big on the wire from the generator to your ammeter.
I use a #10AWG which is good for 30 amps. Most generators, when working properly, 'should' put out 20 amps but why take a chance and melt a wire or short out a circuit or worse? Gar
