Fuel Line (Gas Tank to Front)

Hi Folks,

Got to play with the car today. Pulled the fuel line. Was going to put a new one in and stumped the Napa guys a bit. What's the connector at the front of the vehicle? (Where it mounts to the rubber line to the fuel pump). How do I get that fitting off?

Regards,
Rich

If it's the same as later cars used-- essentially a square block with flare fitting and tube inserted on the opposite end attached to a bracket which bolts to frame, it's either soldered or brazed on the tube and will probably have to be reused if you want to look original.

Oh... It's soldered on. That's the magic we were looking for. (solder or braze?)

Thanks!

That's the question. It's a steel tube so I'm not sure which. Maybe flackmaster has a better idea on the prewars. 47Clipper replaced his line which had that type fitting and might have an answer -- if he sees this post before it disappears.

I would recommend a high silver content solder. It is less prone to cracking under vibration stress.

Cheers,

Tom

Well I got it off. It looked it was brazed on, but I just might do the high content silver solder.

Thanks for the help!!

I've used silver solder many times on such applications and I think it will make an excellent, permanent attachment.
