I hope I can still offer some thoughts on this, and am not too late...
One place I have found (actually Drusilla pointed me in the right direction) is called The Fedora Lounge. This is not just about hats, but about vintage wear and styles in general, and is a group of very helpful people. You might try asking for a lead on patterns or clothing that suits you. Here are the links: thefedoralounge.com/ and they have a Facebook Group as well, which can open a question up in a hurry: facebook.com/#!/groups/19257204144/ I myself love vintage men's clothing, but it is tough to find.
