Hi, I have a question about the numbers found on my Light eight coupe.
Thee is a small plate with the vehiclenumber and date of production, there is a different number on the engine, but there is also a number stamped on the chassis inside the engine compartment (see pic).
Can anyone please tell me what the stamped number means?

Thanks,
Ronald

The number embossed into the cowl is the body serial number, more commonly known as the "theft proof" number, an identifying number Packard could use to identify a car if the other numbers were missing or altered.

The date on the patent plate is the date of sale, not the date of production. It was to be stamped by the selling dealer to mark the commencement of the warranty period.

Quite a coincidence, just an hour ago I got the numbers from another Light Eight coupe, #558 413, <168931>.

You're missing a large glass 20 amp fuse in your circuit breaker, NAPA still carries these as #782-1017, identical to the originals - get a couple of spares, they won't be available forever.

Thanks,
This helps.

Napa doesn't likes buyers from Europe I think. I am blocked from their website.
Do you now another seller or some details of that fuse?

Thanks.

Glad you found it interesting. The balance of it as well as follow-up articles can be found in back issues of The Packard Club quarterly publication.

Just ordered a dozen of these 20 amp fuses from NAPA where they are cheap, a little over a buck a piece, compared to Classic & Exotic which charges $3.50 per fuse plus shipping. Thanks for the heads up, Dave.
