Sorry, I can't help with any factory photos or factory advice on engine removal. I can say though that of a considerable number of Packards with the 320 and 385 motors that I've seen in shops for engine rebuilds, preference seems to be to remove the cylinder bores as a separate item, leaving the crankcase for removal as a separate operation.

Thanks for looking. I'll probably use the head bolts.

Removing the cylinder block and leaving the rods on the crankcase is a junk yard method to sell a cylinder block.
I wouldn't do it. I recall one place that couldn't get a motor to go more that a thousand miles. When I saw how they were taking it apart I almost threw up. Using the head studs is fine. Another method I've seen is making hooks out of spark plugs, but I wouldn't do that with the small UY6 plugs. If the head is off then put the lifter clasps flush with the block and use a washer pack to prevent bending the studs. The fastest way to get it out is to use an overhead gantry and a lift to lower the powertrain out through the bottom. I've seen that done in 45 minutes for an eight. It doesn't work so well for the twelve and I've seen blocks that were patched because they smashed the left side of the V-12 motor against the steering box.
