Question for the hive. I am replacing the head gasket and there are 2 thin washers under 2 rear ish headnuts. One was under the second from rear on drivers side but don't know where the other should be. What is the reason for the thinner washers? Block deck is clean and flat. Head had 6 thou taken off for clean up and core plugs replaced with brass. Gasket was blown between 3 & 4.
Yours, in pieces, Fred.

The head studs may not have been screwed far enough into the block and they were "Bottoming out" in the acorn head nuts. It's very I'm important to check that the acorn nuts are tightening onto the head and not the top of the studs

I recently pulled the head off my 633 as part of the process of replacing the gasket and taking 0.017 of the head I ran a die nut over the studs and used a bottom tap on all the acorn nuts to remove any uneven thread which may inhibit even tension. In practice it good process to use a washer beneath each nut and follow the tightening pattern incrementally as each nut is torqued using a tension wrench. The thread size is 7/16 inch UNF.

The 2 thin washers go under the mounting tabs for the metal ignition wire loom. I flashed it up and runs fairly well.Took the Dowager out and she didn't embarrass herself.
