443 front brake universal joint cover

A few weeks back I guess I hit a pothole too hard, and the result (as I discovered a few miles down the road) was that my driver’s side front brake actuator got jarred loose (see pics). One pic shows the one that broke loose, the other the one that is still intact. When it shook loose I lost the second part of the universal joint cover (part number 139092), I’ve circled the part on the picture of the undamaged unit. Do folks have any idea where I could search for a replacement? I’m hoping this is a pretty standard type of item but I’d appreciate any leads on where I might find one.

Thanks and Happy Holidays everyone.

Obviously 1928 parts cars are rare as anything but this is the sort of thing I would expect to find on one. Perhaps Parkers Packards in Massachusetts would have a lead.

If you can't find the correct part, you might see if one of the shims made for worn Model T or Model A U-joint housings might be close to the right size and shape. I don't know the dimensions, but they look very similar to what you need and are designed for a similar function. Some Model T parts vendors have them. I think they are also made for Ford Model As. Another possible fix would be to machine a new part out of Delrin.

For reference here is the mechanical brake joint on my '31 Model A. To me they look to be a horse of a different colour.

I was referring to shims that are made for Model T, and perhaps Model A, Ford driveshaft universal joint housing repair. If the correct Packard parts, or good reproduction parts are available, that's the way to go. The Ford T has no front brakes at all, and the Model A arrangement is very different from the Packard.

I'd suggest taking a closer look at the control rod system on the side the dust cover came off. The cover is spring loaded and typically won't come off. Inside the cover is a simple universal joint. If the pin in this universal joint shears, this would allow the control rod to separate and move out.

32model901, thank you that is exactly what I was looking for! I was hoping somebody made these. Also I’ll definitely take a closer look - agreed it seems like it shouldn't just shake loose. The help is much appreciated.
