I don't remember where I originally saw that model mentioned, but both my 39 Six's had the Carter and I had read about that carburetor being what they supposedly put on the 39 to replace the finicky Carters. What I can tell you though is I bought a NOS BXOV25 mistakenly (it had electric thermostatic choke), then found the correct vented thermostatic choke (for the 26), put it on making my BXOV25 the same as the BXOV26. My starting issues that seemed to require juicing the Carter have been an after thought with the BXOV2"6".

I have a 1940 110 and the carb was original. It was and is a BXOV-26. I had a good friend rebuild it and it is working just fine.

The Stromberg BXOV-26 and the Carter 577 and 530 were offered as replacements going back to 1937 for the sixes.
I own a 39 6 which would originally have had a Chandler Groves; these were quickly dropped by Packard after 39 for performance reasons. Stromberg and Carter offered aftermaket units for the earlier sixes and became production offerings later. Mine has had a Carter on it for 30 years and is doing great. I also have the Stromberg to rebuild and could use it, but never had reason to. These will fit any six from 37 to 50, including the later white truck version of the Packard 6.

Thank you, all! I just came across a photo that I took long ago which shows the carburetor along with another top casting which is the same but with some very subtle differences. For example, the vent screen is slightly larger on one than on the other.
