just took out all of the interior, but i can't get one of the door panels off. the driver's side door panel was already off, but i can't get off the passenger's side because i can't figure out how to take off the door handle and window crank. i know that there is a clip holding these on, but i can't reach the clip on the back side of the handles.

the back seat top was a pain to get out. i think i killed about 15 common spiders while i was in there and a family of roaches too. exciting!!

the floor is in great shap on this car, most of the undercoating is still there, but from banging around on it it seems solid. the only problem is that little plate that covers the whole on the drivers side floor board.

i also hooked up my battery to my truck to it and the lights turned on, but it wouldn't crank over. it did nothing. then i started to smell some burning, so i took it of the battery quickly and made sure to watch for a fire. that would have sucked!!

next i will vacuum out the inside and try to get the rest of the interior out.

i will post pictures soon.

Hank

There is probably a fairly stiff spring behind the handles that you will have to compress. The clip is in a slot about half way on the handle "hubs". The tool shown is available at most parts stores and might help with the clip by slipping it in while pushing the spring back and then sliding clip out.

i saw the clip. i put a handle back on that was already off on a door that had no door panel. this allowed me to see the function of the clip. so i used a really thin screw driver to push the clip up while i pull out and it pop right off. painful way to do it, but it worked.

now the entire interior is out. i only have left the head liner. my wife vacuumed while i striped out stuff and carefully put it together with it corresponding fasteners/screws. i love this interior....so easy to see how it comes out. not like today were all the screws/fasteners are hidden and can break easily. also not plastic to break....which is great!

my wife is quite the little worker bee and i want her to know i appreciate all her hard work last night. she is my best friend

i will upload some pics today.

Later,

Hank

It is great that your wife is helping and getting involved. Just remember, if she's not happy you are not going to be happy either. A car is a hobby that both of you can enjoy. That's what makes it so great.

okay, tonight was less eventfull, but just as important. we took out the head liner. lots of pieces had to come off first....like what are those things that you can move by hand to cover the windows at the top. are they rain lips or something.....weird, but cool. i am glad i saw the little screws behind that that held on the trim on both side of the inside headliner. i didn't want to bend anything. also what are those rails underneath the headliner that was holding up the cardbaord liner?

my wife is doing a great job putting everything into baggies for me....taggin and baggin....and she's badass!

that's all for now....

oh....how does that trim on the rain lip come off..is it crimped on or what....does it even come off????

thanks,

Hank

okay update for tonight...

i got all the trim pieces off the driver's side using my handy trim puller, worked great and didn't bend any of it a bit. i can't get off a couple of the pieces though and i will post pics of them tomorrow.

once i did that i started taking off the driver's side fender. that took some doing as most of the bolts didn't want to budge. i couldn't get the trim off the front fender either and where the front grille comes around to match that trim piece it ended up breaking...dammit! no biggie, but it still pissed me off a bit.

me and my dad took off the fender and started gazing at the side of the motor....for so much room under there things are kinda crammed, like the power brakes are shoved near right up tot he stearing arm.....crazy..must have been a pain in the Arse to check the fluid or to fill it......i see the instructions as follows:....remove left fender....check fluid level...LOL HAHAHA j/k

well that is pretty much all that got done tonight as the fender was being alittle fussy, so it took me awhile.

until tomorrow.

Hank

Waiting for your pix. As you've found the hard way, there are some hidden screws on some moldings..Some are clips only and others are a combination of clips and threaded studs with nuts that you have to get at from inside car or other barely accessible places.

Another one with hidden screws is the windshield moldings - namely the ones along the A-pillar. You have to remove the weatherstrip from the pillar to find those.

I found that out the hard way, but - thankfully - on a parts car. I didn't need the moldings, but a still saved them (will repair if pressed into service).
