Disc brake conversion for your Packard

Just thought I'd pass along some pictures of my disc brake conversion. I wanted to upgrade the brakes on my 1950 but couldn't afford the expensive option(s) that are out there. I found a like new set of rotors, calipers, hoses and all associated front brake parts from a '78 Camaro on craigslist and then bought a disc brake conversion kit from a on-line vendor. The kit was designed for late '40's to early '50's Chevy's but only required minor machining to the mounting brackets. The only trick was having the spacers machined for the spindle to allow the late model rotor's to bolt up. A good friend who owns a machine shop turned them for me at a very reasonable cost. ALso added a firewall mounted master w/ booster. All together I have about $400 invested in the entire conversion. I'd be happy to share the details if anyone is interested.

The booster and master is fairly high on the firewall compared to those who have installed a firewall mounted booster on later models. What pedal arrangement did you use? It appears the wire loom had to move but did you run into clearance issues with any other major item on the firewall or under the dash that had to relocate?

It will be interesting to see how long and how well the bolts holding the caliper in place will last.

Only the first picture shows up for me with either Firefox or Chrome. Too bad as I'd like to see them.

since the caliper bolts are the factory GM bolts that were used on 10's of thousands of GM cars, I suspect they'll hold up just fine....

Craig- not sure why the other pic's don't open. I use photobucket to load images on other forums I belong to. I assume maybe they're to large. I'd be happy to send them to you if you want to PM me your email.

I was able to open the first picture then scroll through the rest using the left and right arrows on the screen. I was not able to open each link listed under the embedded photo, individually. Win 10 and Chrome worked fine.

Now I can see all of them. Maybe Big Kev tweaked your post syntax? Anyway, I like it. The booster and MC looks exactly like the one I'm using on my Panther, mounted in about the same place.
