packards1 has original points on his site for Autolite which I believe is what you are working with.ebay.com/itm/1941-54-Packard-Auto-Lite-I ... ssories&vxp=mtr&hash=item564bdff9c8
Borrowing part of his photo, do the points you have now look anything like the originals which have a couple of oblong holes -- maybe one for an adjustment screw? Attach file: (27.14 KB)

Yes, these look like the ones I've been looking for.

Remove the rotor. Grasp the distributor shaft and shift it back and forth. If there is more than 0.010" slop then the bushings are worn and that will cause difficulty in setting the points as well as poor engine idle, starting and operation in general.

Yes, it did move, so I had new bushings installed on the distributor shaft.

Bill, the point set gap should be about 0.017" not .007" as you indicated. Maybe this is a typo? (o[]o)

TRy a thin washer under the head of the srew with just a lite film of grease on the washer. Not sure if washer required as oem. That mite be the problem, no washer or washer mite fix the problem..
