Apparently 21st series last one with shielded cable. Parts book identifies that one as switch and cable, whereas 22nd on only refer to a switch. Wiring diagrams also bear that out with individual wire & color listed to coil. 22nd had a separate part number but 23rd through 53 used same switch-not sure of the difference between 22-23.

It's a faint recollection but if correct, the 48 (22nd series) switch had a different bezel than the 23rd series and following models.

Not the best pictures, but maybe they will help.
Edit OOps. Forgot to label.

Bezel & mount sure looks like the difference. Does the 22nd semi thread on and lock with a setscrew? 23 has the same basic spring loaded push & twist as 51 on's.

I think mine looks like the 22nd Series, except that it came from a chrome dash car. I've attached a picture.
I am not real sharp on the post war cars, what year did they adopt the vertical radio in the dash? I notice this car has a switch (inoperable) for "Trans", is this meant for overdrive equipped cars?

What I would call vertical was only on 22-23 series postwar. In 51-6 it was horizontal in middle top of dash. The trans button is the on/off for the optional Electromatic clutch. OD still had the lockout/switch knob under dash.

Your switch is indeed for the 22nd series cars. the holes are for the wrench used to tighten the trim nut.
The button labeled is for the electromatic. Depending on whether it is an early or late, the buttons were labeled either trans or clutch. For car not so equipped the button was intact, but there is no switch behind it.

Yes the label was there. It just wouldn't have a switch behind it.
