I applied the parking brake on my 1951 Deluxe. When I released it the rod that goes thru the firewall came lose in the engine compartment. I don't know where the rod is supposed to attach. I can find photos of the parts but none show where this rod attaches. Any help would be appreciated.

The bent end of the rod goes in a small hole in the long piece of the mechanism and is held there by a spring not seen in that service manual illustration.. The spring might have come loose and wedged somewhere but probably the end broke off and it is no longer usable. Either way there is a good chance you will need to find or make a replacement. A better photo and details of the spring and how it is positioned are shown in Figure 1 of the service article in this 1951 counselor article. It is an oddly made spring with a short hook at one end oriented 90 degrees outward to the end that goes into the handle hole. The short hook end of the spring rests in the notch at the end of the long segment the rod fits into.

Thank You very much. I will get it repaired. I bought this car for my wife's 70th birthday. I need it to be safe for her. She loves it. It has 40900 original miles on it.
