I have read the posts, but I am unclear as to actually polarize the 6V positive ground system. How exactly is this done? At this time I'm having to recharge the battery after I drive and the voltage reg is new and the the generator is good.

With everything properly connected and engine off use a decent size jumper wire to momentarily short the BAT and GEN (or ARM) terminals on the regulator together. It won't need to be shorted more than a second or two and there will be a small spark when the connection is made.

Same polarizing procedure, regardless of whether it's positive or negative ground. You're simply orienting the magnetic poles of the generator fields to whatever the polarity is.
