Has anyone ever seen a 55/56 Packard with a continental kit??
If so where?? If not would the 53/54 units fit?? Anyone care to comment on the visual esthetics of such an an addition.

The continental kits in 53/54 Caribbeans were in part added to increase length to compensate for the short junior wheelbases and I like the appearance. Just my opinion but I think such an addition to a 55 or 56 would look just plain horrible. There was a highly modified 55 or 56 Caribbean for sale not so long ago which has such a kit added, perhaps someone saved a picture. I think it's about the uglies car I've seen but it's all in the beholder's eye.

I agree with Dave. Looks aside, I'd also wonder about drivability. Besides the extra weight pulling the tail end down messing with the compensator, how many times would you scrape a driveway with the extra 12 inches tacked on or have to stop and raise the rear so you didn't.

I had posted these before, and I hope I don't contaminate the site by doing it again.

Randy,

You have a picture of a 55 & 56 Caribbean. Do both of them have a continental kit on the back?

There was a 55 with a kit on e-bay not too long ago. It had a special painted cover for the kit. Maybe the same as Randy picture.

I don't think it looks too bad, certainly not the ugliest car I have ever seen. Were those stock Packard parts or were they custom made???

Both years had Cont. kits. Both were ugly.

that's bad, don't feel so bad now having fur in my car now,

that throws the whole style off,

leaving the body alone, and putting it on top of lic. plate, or in front of lic. plate, and putting plate on lower part of wheel. would look a little better.

Well, you could always put those little Christmas lights in the wheel wells, fake organ pipes behind the back seats, and a "La Cucaracha" horn if you really want to pimp out your Packard.

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...
