Hi

Posted this in Various CL Parts Pickings in case some wants to hop up his Clipper hardtop; a '46 Studebaker Champion stock car running a Packard V8 with quad two barrel carbs and stick shift:
albany.craigslist.org/cto/d/1946-studebaker-stock-car/6706577288.html

Is this quad two barrel manifold set-up a known period performance item or an adapted fit of the Caribbean dual quads set-up? Gotta love the "Packard Powered - POW" graphics on the hood!

Steve

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

The manifold is a Packard 2x4 barrel with Weiand adapters for
Holley #94 three bolt carbs. Speedway Motors has them under their own brand,speedwaymotors.com/Vintage-2-Barrel-Carb-Adapter,5025.html.

Links are not supposed to have commas in them (it's considered to be an "illegal" character) so this site's auto-linking feature got confused. Here it is linked manually so that it gets the whole thing:

That's a bling-over-bang" mash-up favored by rod builders, but those adapters are not even period correct. Those of us who were there remember when the 4-bbls came along, all the 97s went into the scrap pile. There aftermarket 4-bbl intakes for the Ford flathead.

This 4x2 conversion might draw car show comments from the great unwashed, but guaranteed it wouldn't produce as much horsepower or driveability as the Rochester 2x4s.
