Dave (32model901), thanks for sharing. Half a century ago the Soviets worked along similar lines when sketching a "cab over", based on a ZIL.

That Studebaker looks like he's to good for everyone else: he seems to pull up his nose!

Artist Steven Erler (http://www.auto-visuals.com/cars-that-never-were.asp ) has done a series of cars that never were, but would make a great Christmas present.

Below are a couple of my favorites: 1935 custom body by Gurney-Nutting, 1954 Caribbean Station Wagon like a (cough, cough) Chevy Nomad (cough) and a 1955 Caribbean.

The 4 door Caribbean is interesting and different with the suicide doors. Something with the roof makes it look a bit long though. I like the wagon a bit more.

Wagons were big in the day and if Packard could have produced that concept with maybe a bit less slant at the back and at a reasonable cost it might have sold. With Neal's explanation of how the money men were convinced it would be cost effective to do the convertible off the hardtop base, If something could have been done along the size of the Henney Junior in the same fashion (not sure if it would need to be four door) I think there could have been a market in the Clipper line.

IMO, the Henney wagon concept on the large wheelbase was nice and plush and worthy of the Packard name but just too big even for those times. Believe that was the major gripe on the one or two drive reviews I read. Think one of them said it was like driving a house down the road -- of course, this was in the days before RVs were in half the driveways of America.

I have a friend with a 54 Junior he bought as a surplus Navy ambulance. That was used in station wagon mode and was his primary transport for many years. It did several coast to coast transfers for his family without having any real issues. The engine needed work so it finally was retired just a few years ago when the state air resources board said the blue trail it was leaving was not acceptable and car was cited for pollution.
