Mark (FirstEliminator), things don't look much different overseas either. For me it's been 25 years and I often think that when I die one day the house will be in the condition it was supposed to be in when I bought it.

Eventually, one of my kids will inherit the house. My hope is they will appreciate it the way I do. Or, they might sell it. The cost of real-estate here is getting crazy. For that aspect, I'm glad I'm not in my 20's finding that home prices are going up faster than I can save money for a deposit. It seriously cuts into the Packard fund.

I have been around the world three times. Never have I seen a Packard as sad looking as that one in your front yard. Like the house, though. :)

I hit the send button on my previous post too quickly. To add: It is a lovely home. I’d like to see the Packard in the front yard, however.
“Today, my wife and I were looking at bills and looking at all the things about our house that still need to be done, plus the real estate taxes that go up every year. This will be the 20th year that we've lived in and worked on our house.” We are still working on our home as well, and probably will until we die. It’s our home! Working on it keeps us active, The things we accomplish, however small, make us feel good. It’s our home! We’ll fix the existing and new warts and other problems as time and resources permit. And, of course, there is room for our Packard and any other old car that dares to enter the driveway. Please park your Packard out front and take another picture. The house by itself is handsome, and the setting is beautiful. A Packard in front would push it over the top.

Sad looking, yes. While noisy, bumpy and slow it gets some work done.
The original post was about what I thought was a funny saying came about and how much easier life would be if I lived in trailer home.....cheap, easy and simple. Which is in contrast to a top of the line fancy car. A bit of a mismatch. Packard isn't the kind of car you would find in a trailer park. Plus, choosing to own a Packard is similar to owning a Victorian house. While built well, any repairs aren't going to be cheap and unless you do it yourself, you had better find the right craftsman. Here is a pic opposite my original saying. This one is with my Trailer-Park Packard at a Victorian house. Hopefully this year that Packard and the house will have improvement.

I might have you beat on the amount of scaffolding. One of the on-going projects is repairing our slate roof. It is a lot of work. To hire someone to do everything the way I am doing it would be 60k+. While it might get done by paying someone, there is a 99% chance that I won't be 100% happy with their work. Plus, I get no gratification from paying people. If you like videos, I put together a few of the slate work. On the same channel are some Packard videos as well.

One thing about trailer homes is if a good wind or rain storm came along there is a good chance you could travel and never need to leave your easy chair.
