I'm trying to find history on my 1948 seven passenger sedan and hoping someone may recognize it. I found a past registration in the glove box with the name Arthur Smith in Santa Monica CA. from 1983. The person I bought it from had no info or title for the car. He told me about 14 years ago he brought it to Arizona from California. Being kind of a unique car maybe someone in the Santa Monica may remember it, thanks for any help. Any info about the body number would be appreciated also 227792784 thank Mike

I wouldn't give it a second thought. Only a Packard bathtub devotee looking at the data plate is going to know the difference. I have a 23rd series 1949 that was re-numbered by the factory to be a 1950... try explaining that at a local car show [Now I just tell anybody that asks it's a 1950 and let it go at that].
