Other than differences in inner valuing and that sort of thing, these pumps were identical through 1954. The only way to determine exactly what it is would be to disassemble it and compare the bits to a known pump! The pumps I have back to 1940 all look the same.

By all means correct me if I'm wrong but seem to recall that the 356 pump is unique in that it has a 6-bolt cover plate, compared to 4 on the others.
